Planned facilities

Located in the State of Queretaro (1 hour far from its capital), which already hosts Clusters in the Aeronautic and Automotive industry, we will develop a brand new future city, the CMF Photonics Innovation City. It is the first open innovation ecosystem for the optics and photonics industries in Latin America. Its conception is unique worldwide, since it is the first production and innovation ecosystem totally self-contained in the same place. It will be built around a National Institute for Photonics Manufacturing, consisting of diverse fab-labs which may include:

  • Design of fiber optic communication systems

  • Laser materials processing

  • Tower for stretching microstructured optical fibers

  • Characterization and packaging of solar cells

  • Cleanroom for fabrication of photonic devices and circuits

  • Thin-films deposition (metallic and dilectric)

  • Epitaxial growth of semiconductor wafers

  • Systems of micro- and nano-lithography

  • Packaging of photonic devices and circuits

  • Optical instrumentation

  • Worskshop for optical components (incl. additive manufacture)

  • Ultra high power laser

  • Growth of pure and doped crystals

  • Failure analysis laboratory

Moreover, several units for the eco-system development are envisioned:

  • Incubator of technology-based companies

  • Business accelerator

  • Certifications unit

  • Talent training unit

  • Dissemination unit

The master plan includes a University campus hosting a consortium of Mexican and foreign universities. It will offer dual and shared undergraduate and postgraduate programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), focused on optics and photonics.

The mixed urban development will include about 18,000 homes, more than 100 standard industrial lots and all the necessary educational, cultural, sports, commercial, medical and recreational services. It will host companies in the optics and photonics sector, enabling industries in advanced manufacturing, security, health and medical devices, telecommunications and ICT, and energy.

Towards a brighter Mexico.
